We were in fact talking about Murmansk and the big atomic icebreaker, but then I found this little article in a 1928 paper.

Храм Спаса на Крови
The church in the background is built on the spot where tsar Alexander II was murdered, "on the blood".
It is also a protest against European architecture (f.i. this Mikhailovsky palace) - and I agree.
Why should a Russian city look like Paris, or Amsterdam (of all places...).
What's wrong with Moscow, or Irkutsk?
There's more Russian architecture on my other blog: http://analoog60.blogspot.com/

Well, we still walk in wooden shoes and only eat tulips with cheese, don't we?
The nevertheless interesting original sold last week for € 30,000.

Сергей Ульянов
As I said below, Russian accordeons are the best in the world, and, of course, have a great tradition.
Top: Lenin's twin-brother with his баян.
Bottom: ànd Trotsky!

Москва - Бенуа - Царское Село
The curse of the net: I got some info from Maxima Hotel Moscow about Anna Mons. Became interested in the painter Benois, and landed in Tsarskoye Selo. Nice!

Unlikely friendship
After WWII two giants were able to start the friendship between two all-time enemies. And became also personal friends, of course, because they were real men.
(For the younger ones: left is Charles de Gaulle, from France, and right Konrad Adenauer, from Germany.)
